Camps Bay has all the right ingredients for a hot summer vacation – white sandy beaches, turquoise waters, cocktail and champagne bars, amazing restaurants, and beautiful people. It’s vibey, fun, and cosmopolitan. And, it’s close to the City Bowl without being in the middle of it. It is South African summer holiday perfection.

Cape Town welcomes millions of tourists to its beautiful city every year and Camps Bay has plenty of accommodation options. These range from boutique hotels and exclusive guesthouses to inviting bed and breakfasts. Some are within walking distance of the beach, others have easy access to top-notch restaurants, while many more are all about the breath-taking views.

The beach itself is a hotspot for those wanting to bronze up, play a game of volleyball, or go for a dip in the chilly waters (never too cold for keen surfers). During the popular summer months (December to February), deckchairs and sun loungers are available for hire, and there is even a massage gazebo where a professional masseuse can give you a rub-down; ideal for tired muscles and aching joints.

To get the most out of Camps Bay, it’s best to head out on foot. Explore the streets, sample the food, stop and listen to the street performers. Cape Town needs to be experienced, not just seen. Guided walking and cycling trails are fantastic ways to immerse yourself in this luxurious suburb, but you can also head out without a guide and discover why that area is a treasure trove of attractions, activities and exciting finds. Whether you opt for a guided tour or exploring it on your own, you’ll know when it’s time to stop and find an ice-cold cocktail.

A few minutes’ drive away, on the other side of Table Mountain, the bustling city centre of Cape Town awaits visitors. Although it is absolutely brimming with popular tourist attractions, the Mother City is also about gorgeous views of the mountain and spectacular shopping.

And, when you need a break from the hubbub of a busy city, head out to the wine farms of the Cape Winelands, where some of the best wines in the world are being produced and sold. The charming little town of Hout Bay is less than 20 minutes away and is famous for its fresh seafood.

If you’ve left finding accommodation in Cape Town a little late for this summer and can’t find anything in Camps Bay, there are loads of nearby neighbourhoods from which to choose. The Waterfront is a stunning base, with views of the mountains and the ocean on your doorstep, and is just minutes away from the City Bowl. Sea Point, Green Point and Bantry Bay also offer ideal spots with a definite touch of luxury.

Exploring Cape Town is made much easier with the red double-decker tour busses that offer sightseeing tours. These and the MyCiTi busses provide fantastic transport services to locals and tourists, making it easier, quicker and safer to tour Cape Town.

Camps Bay is just over 30 minutes from the Cape Town International Airport.
